Ranked amongst the five top family camps in the U.S. by Good Morning America and Disney’s Family Fun Magazine, the camp’s experienced naturalists have created a top-notch environmental vacation for the entire family. Whether your family is watching humpback whales and seals by boat, helping put together the bones of a Minke Whale, or listening to tales of the camp’s Bug Man, you’ll return home with a lifetime’s worth of memories.
Activities include whale watch and nature cruises, visits to the camp’s Starfish Enterprise to learn about and hold sea creatures; hiking trail and beach explorations including tide pools, and more. Diver Ed teaches kids about sea urchins, sea cucumbers, hermit crabs, and other sea animals, allowing children to touch and hold animals brought up from the ocean floor.
The College of the Atlantic’s summer programs are inspired by the landscape and resources of coastal Maine and Acadia National Park. The summer program offers great natural history and field-based studies to teach children about the ocean and ecology, wildlife preservation, and more.
Instead of checking into a hotel, families that participate in the Family Nature Camp stay right on the College of the Atlantic’s oceanfront campus in Bar Harbor with stays in the Blair-Tyson dormitory suites. The campus consists of 37 acres on Frenchman Bay, and two organic farms which include livestock and crops, and supply the school’s dining hall with organic produce, eggs, and meat. Family meals are provided for all camp participants at the college’s award-winning dining hall. One-week stay from $850 per adult; $425 for kids 15 and under.
